Photosynthesis and Respiration

Photosynthesis Equation

6CO2 + 6H2O gives C6H12O6 + 6O2
What it means: Plants use carbon dioxide and water with light to make glucose and oxygen.
Example: For every 6 molecules of CO2 absorbed, 6 molecules of O2 are released.

Aerobic Respiration

C6H12O6 + 6O2 gives 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy
What it means: Glucose is broken down using oxygen to release energy as ATP.
Example: This happens in muscle cells when you exercise.

Anaerobic Respiration in yeast

C6H12O6 gives 2C2H5OH + 2CO2 + energy
What it means: Without oxygen, yeast breaks glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide.
Example: Yeast in dough ferments sugars. CO2 makes bread rise.
